I love movies and I see many. One that I could recommend for you to see is 12 Years of Slavery by director Steven McQueen, made in 2013. It is a biographical drama. I liked this film because it is based on a real event that was taken from an 1853 memoir that tells the story of its author Solomon Nortup, an African-American man who was born free and was kidnapped to force him to live as a slave for 12 years. Salomon is a musician, educated and faces repeated abuse to the point of stripping him of his own dignity. Moreover, not only is his freedom taken away, but also his identity, in order to erase all his past, including his name. The film shows the raw and unambiguous way in which the slaves were treated. The injustice and how the power of another human being is capable of humiliating and degrading another person who does not have the same color skin.
