MOVIES AND SERIES

I love movies and I see many. One that I could recommend for you to see is 12 Years of Slavery by director Steven McQueen, made in 2013. It is a biographical drama.

I liked this film because it is based on a real event that was taken from an 1853 memoir that tells the story of its author Solomon Nortup, an African-American man who was born free and was kidnapped to force him to live as a slave for 12 years.

Salomon is a musician, educated and faces repeated abuse to the point of stripping him of his own dignity. Moreover, not only is his freedom taken away, but also his identity, in order to erase all his past, including his name. The film shows the raw and unambiguous way in which the slaves were treated.

The injustice and how the power of another human being is capable of humiliating and degrading another person who does not have the same color skin.

And where Solomon find himself at the crossroads of lying or telling the truth in order to survive and cannot and should not be a learned person because it is dangerous for him and his masters would take it a an affront.

It must be seen because it leads to a deep reflection on racism and discrimination, it has a good script and very good actors. In 2013 he won several academy awards. Among them was the award for best film.
